Safe & Sound is a strength-based method where music is used as an intervention to awaken resilience in children and youth in the context of potential traumatic experiences. Music helps to connect, make people feel safe and creates a lot of fun. Within the safe place we focus on the strengths, talents an d the way children and youth cope with the adversity they face in their lives. It’s a creative music proces where we use improvisational excercises from where they, step by step start to composes their own song or piece of music. This proces is being used to awaken resilience. Everybody has the potential to resilience. We focus on the resources of the children and youth and how these are met by the psychological, social, cultural and physical resources of their surroundings that sustain their well-being.

The first publication is my thesis to graduate at the Korzybski Institute. You can take a look here.

In June 2019 together with Hogeschool Zuyd and KenVak we will go on with the development of this method at three schools in the south of Holland for refugee children and youth.

You can listen here to the songs which were written during the sessions.
